How do I turn off water to the toilet?

Stand in front of the toilet/commode. On the left side of the toilet, below the toilet tank, find the turnable handle. The handle will likely be on the wall or on the floor, in older homes.

Turn the handle to the right, to shut off the water to the toilet. To turn on the water, turn the handle all the way to the left (some handles may leak, if the handle is not turned all the way to the left).

This handle will only turn the water on and off for this particular toilet. The water for the rest of the house or other toilets will not be affected.
