Why is the power out in an entire room (bedroom, living room, etc)?

If the power is out in only one room, a breaker probably tripped.  Other than kitchens and bathrooms, the electrical circuits in other rooms are not meant to power appliances, such as hair dryers, and can cause the breaker for the room to turn off.

To reactivate the breaker:

  1. Find the breaker panel for your house.
  2. If you have a garage, the breaker box is likely located in the garage
  3. If you don’t have a garage, the breaker box is likely located on the back of the house. If you live in a duplex, there will be two breaker boxes on the back of the house.  The addresses on the breaker boxes may no longer be visible, so you may need to check both breaker boxes.
  4. Open the breaker panel.
    1. The breaker panel consists of switches that move back and forth horizontally. When the breakers are in the on-position, they should point toward the middle of the panel.
    2. Look for any breakers that do not line up with the other breakers, which indicates that the breaker has moved from the on-position.
    3. Flip that breaker to the off-position, which is the position furthest form the middle, and back to the on-position.
  5. Go back into the house and confirm that the power for the room is now on.

If the power is still not on, send a Request through the Resident Center.
